How to use BagIt

Step 1: Prepare

1. Remove surface mud or dirt

2. Take out the insoles (optional)

3. Place each shoe in its own BagIt bag

Step 2: Wash

1. Close the bag all the way

2. Add your usual detergent

3. Select a normal wash cycle

4. Use cold or lukewarm water (30–40°C)

Step 3: Dry

1. Take the shoes out of the bag after washing

2. Air dry, or use the BagIt shoe dryer

Which shoes and materials can I wash with BagIt?

BagIt works with the vast majority of everyday sneakers and shoes: Nike, Adidas, New Balance, Converse, On Cloud, Veja, Asics, Salomon, Hoka…

✅ Compatible materials: canvas, smooth leather, synthetic leather, mesh, Gore-Tex, and mixed fabrics.

❌ To avoid: suede, nubuck, patent leather, and cork soles (like Birkenstocks). These materials can't withstand machine washing and need specific dry-care treatment.

What wash program, temperature, and detergent should I use?

Delicate or synthetics cycle, 30°C or 40°C max, gentle spin between 400–600 rpm (never above 800).
Your regular detergent works fine, at the normal dose.
It goes in the machine's detergent drawer, not inside the bag — the water and detergent pass through the mesh to reach the shoe.

Can I wash both shoes in a single bag?

Yes, both shoes fit in a single BagIt. However, for the best wash and better protection, we recommend using two bags — one per shoe.
That way, the microfibers clean every surface and the shoes don't rub against each other.

Can I use BagIt in a front-load or top-load machine?

Yes. BagIt works perfectly in front-load, top-load, portable, and compact washing machines.

How long does it take for shoes to dry?

Same as after a hand wash: 12 to 24 hours depending on the material and room temperature.
You can use the BagIt electric shoe dryer to dry them in 3 hours.

Is it really better than washing by hand?

Yes, in two ways:
Results: thousands of microfibers scrub every surface of the shoe throughout the whole cycle, including spots a brush struggles to reach.

Yes. For very dirty or smelly shoes, just spray on a stain remover or deodorizing spray before putting them in the bags.

What if the zipper breaks?

It shouldn't — we use an industrial-grade YKK zip. But if it does happen, we'll replace the bag for free.

How many washes does the bag last for? Is it reusable?

The bag is fully reusable and built to last hundreds of washes. It cleans itself during the cycle, as water and detergent pass through the mesh. You take it out of the machine clean and ready for the next wash. So our 2- and 4-bag sets aren't for "stocking up" — they let you wash several shoes at once,

Do I need to remove the laces before washing?

No, that's not necessary — they wash just fine left in. Removing the insoles, on the other hand, is recommended, since they dry faster on their own.

Can the zipper open during the wash?

No. The bag has a locking system: position the zip in the designated locking area and it stays closed for the entire cycle. No extra pins or fasteners needed.

Can I wash the bag with other laundry?

Yes. The bag already protects your shoes and drum perfectly well on its own. Its padded walls absorb every rotation. Adding a few towels or a pair of jeans cushions it even further, and means you're not running a whole load just for your shoes.
One exception: the very first cycle for a yellow bag should be run alone and empty.

Can BagIt damage my washing machine?
